Basham Fine Art | Strategic Fine Art Advisory for Collectors & Institutions

There is no single threshold for readiness. If you are drawn to art and wish to build a collection that reflects your vision, your values, and your legacy, that is a meaningful place to begin. Basham Fine Art works with collectors at every stage, from those acquiring their first significant work to seasoned patrons expanding an established collection. What matters is not where you start, but the intention and guidance you bring to each acquisition.

Basham Fine Art offers structured payment arrangements for select original acquisitions. We encourage you to speak with us directly before proceeding, so that a plan can be tailored to your acquisition and timeline. A down payment and a credit card are required to initiate any arrangement.

Works acquired through a payment arrangement are delivered upon completion of the full payment. This ensures the integrity of the acquisition for both the collector and the artist.

An original is a singular work created directly by the artist, irreplaceable and one of a kind.

A giclée print is a high-fidelity reproduction produced using archival inks on fine art paper, offering exceptional color accuracy and archival longevity. It is a considered option for collectors seeking access to an artist’s work at a different investment level.

A museum wrap is a reproduction printed on canvas and stretched over wooden bars for a frameless presentation, often closely resembling the original in texture and scale.

Fine art can appreciate meaningfully over time, particularly when acquisitions are made with strategic intent. Basham Fine Art advises clients on building balanced collections that combine established artists with emerging talent of genuine cultural repute and institutional trajectory. The works most likely to hold and grow in value are those acquired with discernment, not on impulse, but on informed, considered judgment.

Yes. All limited-edition prints are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, confirming the work’s originality and, where applicable, the edition number. This documentation forms part of the provenance record and is essential to the long-term integrity of your collection.

Proper stewardship begins the moment a work enters your collection. The following practices are recommended:

Framing and Matting — Works should be framed using acid-free mats and UV-protective, museum-quality glass to prevent fading and deterioration. Giclée prints are produced on 100-year acid-free archival paper and should be framed promptly upon acquisition.

Handling — Always handle artworks with clean cotton gloves. Lift by the frame or structural supports, never by the canvas edge or paper.

Placement — Display works in environments with stable temperature and humidity. Avoid direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Attics and basements are not suitable for long-term display or storage.

Maintenance — Dust periodically with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Inspect works regularly for any signs of wear, discoloration, or damage. Consult a professional conservator if concerns arise.

Storage — If temporary storage is required, keep the works upright in a cool, dry environment, covered with breathable material such as clean cotton.

Documentation — Maintain comprehensive records of each work, including acquisition receipts, provenance, and any restoration history. This is essential for insurance, resale, and legacy purposes.

We recommend positioning works away from direct sunlight, high-humidity areas, and high-traffic spaces where accidental contact is likely. Basham Fine Art offers installation oversight and framing guidance to ensure every work is presented with the care and consideration it deserves.

Yes. We advise clients on insurance options appropriate to their collection and can assist with the cataloging and documentation required for coverage. Proper insurance is a fundamental component of responsible collection stewardship.

Basham Fine Art provides guidance on appropriate storage practices, transport protocols, and emergency preparedness planning to protect your collection during relocation or storage. We approach every logistical consideration with the same standard of care applied to the acquisition itself.

Commissioned works require careful consideration of artistic intent, scale, medium, placement, and the artist’s cultural standing and institutional trajectory. For a full overview of our commissioning process and the artists we work with, please visit our Commissions page.
